Biography

Born in London, Jonathan read music at Bristol University and later studied conducting with George Hurst. He is Music Director of Mid Wales Opera, Ludlow Orchestra and Opera Project which he co-founded in 1993. He is an Associate Artist of Longborough Festival Opera where he recently conducted a Janacek cycle (Jenufa, Katya Kabanova and The Cunning Little Vixen). He has conducted annually for West Green House Opera since 2000, most recently La Rondine, Ariadne auf Naxos and Candide. For MWO The Magic Flute, Semele, Eugene Onegin, Tosca, Dido and Aeneas, La bohème, The Marriage of Figaro and Hansel and Gretel. His many reduced orchestrations of operas are performed extensively worldwide, his arrangement of Walton’s The Bear is published by Oxford University Press (and was recently filmed by Opera Holland Park) and his arrangement of Montsalvatge’s El Gato con botas is published by Peermusic Classical, NY.
