Biography

Jonathan read music at Bristol University and later studied conducting with George Hurst. He is Music Director of Mid Wales Opera, Associate Artist of Longborough Festival Opera and Music Director of Opera Project, which he co-founded in 1993. Recent conducting work includes a Janáček cycle Jenufa, Katya Kabanová and The Cunning Little Vixen for LFO, Ariadne auf Naxos, Candide and Die Fledermaus for West Green House Opera and The Magic Flute, Eugene Onegin, Tosca and The Marriage of Figaro for MWO. His many reduced orchestrations of operas are performed extensively across the world and his arrangement of Walton’s The Bear, performed on MWO SmallStages tour, is now published by OUP.
